This module will provide you with the basic skills, knowledge and information to safely operate a Skid Steer (Bobcat).

Participants will be trained and assessed in the following:

  • Driving and operating a Skid Steer (bobcat) Loader safely
  • Identify any and all safety factors necessary for Skid Steer (bobcat) operation
  • List factors, which add to and promote production efficiency
  • Build house pads
  • Move materials
  • Stockpile


  • Introduction and Legislation
  • OHS Regulations and Act
  • Safety requirements and environmental protection
  • Plan & prepare operations
  • Operation techniques
  • Inspect & prepare work area
  • Machine inspections and fault finding
  • Pre-start checks
  • Communication practices
  • Monitoring and alarm systems
  • Response to hazards and emergency situations
  • Operational routine maintenance and servicing

Training conditions are simulated to a mining/civil work environment in which:

  • Steel capped safety footwear and suitable clothing are essential
  • Hardhats and vests are provided
  • Sunscreen is advisable
  • Course manual, notepads, etc are provided

Assessment methods are of written, theory and practical observation. If you have any literacy problems please advise ACMT Operator Training Staff at the point of Application.
